Hello friends in America!

I hope you are all well. Today I will write you all a e-mail about my
exhibition next year in the Vienna Rathaus. The exhibition: "Leisure time of
the American soldiers in Vienna 1945 to 1955" will start in February 2005.
This is my first exhibition in my work (Vienna City Library) and I hope I
can make a good job. But I can only make a good job with your help. I was
born 9 years after the last American soldier have leave Vienna. All my
information are out of books, from films and from your stories!
Jack Edmonds have translate my exhibition program (THANK YOU VERY
MUCH!!!!!!!!!!). I will put the information on the end of this e-mail.

LEISURE TIME FOR ALLIED SOLDIERS IN VIENNA BETWEEN 1945 AND 1955

Dr. Hubert Prigl is preparing an Exhibition at the Vienna Rathaus during the
months of February through May or June 2005. He is requesting information
from all soldiers who had spent their leisure time in Vienna. Examples of
what leisure activities that Dr. Prigl is seeking are listed below.

Information being sought:

  • Learning the differences between American and Viennese culture.
  • American leisure time at events such as Special Services, sports, military concerts, etc.
  • American leisure time activities such as Austrian nightclubs, operas, music, etc.
  • Nightclubs that were considered American soldier oriented.
  • Personal relationships with the Viennese people.
  • Problems and disputes between American GIs, other Four Power military personnel, and/or Austrian civilians.
  • GI activities as a tourist.
  • Culture activities with USIS, ARC, Special Services and with other cultural service activities.
  • Taking advantage of offered University classes and other Austrian civilian services.
  • Comments on how the Viennese Courier, Stars and Stripes, USFA Sentinel, and other newspapers that were read and enjoyed by American GIs.
  • Comments on how well Rot-Weiss-Rot and the Blue Danube Radio networks were enjoyed by American GIs
  • Personal connections made with other Four Power military personal.
  • What kind of curiosities occurred while in Vienna, i.e. skiing on Währingerstrasse or other unusual events.
  • MPs law and order activities.
